THE CRAFT OF VILLA NORD
Not what you see. What you feel.
Craft, at Villa Nord, is a way of making decisions. Those quiet and thoughtful decisions that will shape a new kind of hospitality - a boutique hotel in Trondheim.
TRONDHEIM, May 15, 2026 – At Villa Nord, we believe craft is a way of making decisions. It is present in how a guest is welcomed before they arrive, in how a breakfast is assembled, in the small ritual that happens in a room at the end of an evening. It is most visible in what does not need explaining. Crafted decisions that can be felt when entering Villa Nord.
A QUIET REJECTION OF THE GENERIC
Craftsmen, artists and hoteliers have each left something behind within these walls at Dronningens gate 26. We wish to continue it through this next chapter.
Craft, at Villa Nord, is not an aesthetic. It is a set of decisions made daily, often invisible to the final guest. It is the choices of craftsmen, the materials, the details, the people – and the belief that what surrounds a moment shapes that moment.
The materials we choose for Villa Nord are selected with honesty and longevity in mind. We choose them for what they will be in ten or twenty years, not for what they look like today. They are chosen to age honestly. Several are sourced from Norwegian producers, because the value of what is being built here belongs in this place.
Our craftsmen work on decisions that most guests may not consciously register. But they will be felt. When something is genuinely right, it disappears into the background of how a space feels. The work is in the disappearing.
The craft of the table
In 1837, Hôtel du Nord introduced Trondheim to its first à la carte dining. We think about that often.
Each element at the table has a producer behind it, a place of origin, a reason for being chosen. This is the thread we are picking up from 1837. The idea that a meal served with intention tastes different from one that does not.
The craft of the night
We believe that how someone sleeps at Villa Nord is as considered as anything else we do. Each detail is planned as part of the architecture of the stay, with the same intention as the room’s materials and its art. The goal is not a perfect night. The goal is rest that feels genuinely personal, shaped by care rather than protocol.
The craft of THE room
Our 51 guest rooms are each shaped by Gathe + Gram, with every material choice made in service of how the room will feel to sleep in, wake up in, and return to after a day in the city.
Each of those 51 rooms also holds an original piece of art by a regional Norwegian artist, as a quiet introduction to the creative life of this place. No two rooms contain the same piece.
Our public spaces are being designed by MYT Design Studio - a team whose instinct for materiality and atmosphere aligns closely with our own. The lobby, a glass-ceilinged atrium, the bar and the restaurant are each spaces designed to feel inhabited rather than staged, with a pace that encourages guests to slow down.
Craft as a philosophy
For us, craft is ultimately about authenticity and connection.
It is a quiet presence, not a loud one. We are not building a showroom. Villa Nord is built with the conviction that what surrounds a moment shapes that moment – and that every journey, shaped by care and genuine hospitality, is felt long after the door has closed.
We hope you will feel it from the moment you enter.
Opening November 2026 – be the first
Villa Nord opens at Dronningens gate 26, Trondheim, in November 2026. Until then, we invite you to follow our journey and be among the first to know when bookings open.
Among those who sign up for our newsletter, we will draw two names.
One will be our first guest - a night at Villa Nord with breakfast served at the table, the morning after we open our doors. One will join us as our first guest at the brasserie, for a meal on the house.
